Net Zero

We are committed to fighting climate change
We have always prioritized the identification of risks and business opportunities, so as to establish the best solutions to decarbonize our operations.
Joining the UN Global Compact's Net Zero Ambition Program. In 2021 marks a milestone in Cemig's decarbonization journey. We undertook to reduce 90% of our greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Climate change and the electricity sector
Climate change poses increasing challenges to the electricity sector, impacting the availability of natural resources, the predictability of generation sources, and the security of energy supply. Extreme events, such as prolonged droughts and intense rainfall, require greater resilience from electrical systems and reinforce the need for long-term planning.
In this context, Cemig plays a strategic role in the transition to a low-carbon economy, investing in:
- Expansion of renewable energy sources
- Modernization of infrastructure and efficient energy use
- Innovation, diversification of the energy matrix and sustainable practices

Expansion of distributed generation
Cemig Sim, a Cemig Group company, has been increasingly gaining solar energy consumer units and plans to invest roughly R$1 billion in the distributed generation segment between 2022 and 2025.
Investment in Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency initiatives contribute to reducing energy consumption in various economic sectors. Learn more
The Minas LED Program, implemented in over 600 municipalities of the state of Minas Gerais, has stood out, aiming at replacing inefficient light bulbs with LED light bulbs.
Increase in the electric vehicle fleet
We have acquired more electric vehicles and issued guidelines for the use of ethanol in fossil-fuel vehicles.
Renewable Energy Certificates
Reduction in electricity distribution losses
We have already managed to reach the regulatory limit of losses by adopting various initiatives from the Energy Recovery Plan:
- We conducted nearly 500 thousand inspections per year in consumer units in the company's concession area.
- We regularized approximately 100 thousand uncontracted consumer units with energy consumption in 2022.
- We reduced administrative losses in over 10 thousand consumer units in 2022.
- We removed more than 4 thousand irregular connections.
- We replaced thousands of obsolete meters with smart meters.
